Karolina Maria Kotkowska

Karolina Maria Kotkowska, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Comparative Studies of Civilisations at Jagiellonian University. She holds degrees in ethnology, pedagogy, and philosophy, and earned her PhD with honors from the Institute of Philosophy of Jagiellonian University.

Her interdisciplinary research in Cultural and Religious Studies focuses on the margins of culture, alternative currents, and controversial ideas, with particular emphasis on esotericism and religion. Her work examines New Religious Movements, alternative spirituality, and Western esotericism, especially in relation to their influence on contemporary cultural phenomena.

She has been awarded four nationally funded research grants in Poland and is actively involved in international research collaborations. She serves as an editor of the Studies in Esotericism series at Jagiellonian University Press.

She is a co-founder and Board member of the Central and Eastern European Network for the Academic Study of Western Esotericism (CEENASWE), a regional network of the European Society for the Study of Western Esotericism (ESSWE).
